Child Chiropractic Care
Your Child Can Benefit From Chiropractic Care Also
With Back to School just around the corner and school functions and sports getting underway this is a reminder: Children Can Benefit from Chiropractic Care Too
Most people associate back pain with the stresses and wear and tear of adult life. But even babies can be subjected to forces that could cause back pain. In fact, the process of birth can place significant stress on the infant’s back. Developmental milestones, such as learning to sit up, to stand, and finally taking steps all cause varying degrees of stress on the spinal column. Add to that the rough and tumble play many youngsters engage in, and it’s not too surprising that by the time children are of school age, more than one in four report having a history of back pain.
Importance of Regular Spinal Checks for Children
Chiropractors report that adults who come in complaining of back pain show signs of childhood injuries that may have been the start of their adult condition. So every child, especially those who participate in sports, should have their spine checked regularly to both correct any current problems but to also potentially prevent conditions that can affect them once they’re adults.
Recent research suggests that keeping the spine properly aligned can help alleviate a number of childhood conditions, such as colic, headaches, ear infections, scoliosis, asthma, and even bed wetting and constipation. A recent study published in the Annals of Vertebral Subluxation Research stated that pediatric constipation accounts for approximately 2.5 million physician visits annually at a cost of more than $3,300 per treated child.
Maintaining Alignment to Improve Sports Performance
For young and older athletes alike, proper spinal alignment has been shown to improve performance as well as help endurance and functionality, and improve healing after minor injuries. ScripHessco Chief Financial Officer Kray Kibler says, “Chiropractic care helps athletes of all ages to perform at their best, helping them to obviate and better address injuries. With milder weather and the return to baseball, golf, tennis, track, and other spring sports, doctors of chiropractic play an important role in delivering preventive care for tendinitis, stress fractures, torn rotator cuffs, and muscle spasms that could sideline activities.”
